The Chattanooga Humanist Assembly (CHA) welcomes all humanists living in the Chattanooga area, who want to come and reason together. As humanists, we prefer to use critical thinking and rationalism to identify and address common human needs. Part of CHA’s goal is to help local humanists seek out ways to better our community while working within a secular framework. CHA allows secular people in the Chattanooga area to come together, with the knowledge they are among friends.
The Chattanooga Humanist Assembly is an official Chapter of the American Humanist Association (AHA).
The mission of the AHA is to advance humanism, an ethical and life-affirming philosophy free of belief in any gods or other supernatural forces. Advocating for the equality of nontheists and a society guided by reason, empathy, and a growing knowledge of the natural world, the AHA promotes a worldview that encourages individuals to live informed and meaningful lives that aspire to the greater good.
Humanists and the AHA affirm the dignity of every human being and assert that humanity is responsible for its own destiny, having within itself all that is needed to improve the conditions of life. Humanism is a philosophy of avid service for the greater good of humanity. Humanists believe happiness is attained by harmoniously combining personal development with work that contributes to the welfare of humanity. Humanists see reason and science as the best tools for the discovery of knowledge and the achievement of goals.
